Gorski/CENAPS Relapse Prevention

Following the model of Terry Gorski, the nationally-recognized leader in relapse prevention training, Full Life offers a Relapse Prevention Group for those with and without a history of relapse who are in their first 18 months of recovery. Using Gorski's Relapse Prevention model, group members identify and plan for navigating around high-risk situations, Life & Addiction History, their own relapse history (if applicable), developing a recovery-oriented lifestyle and identifying reaction patterns that could threaten recovery and jump-start relapse-directed thinking. Participants begin with weekly group and twice monthly individual sessions for 9-16 weeks ($400/month) and then begin tapering down based on individual needs (fees adjusted accordingly).  Prescreening is required.

Relapse Prevention Group:  Mondays, 6:30-8:30 pm

Recovery Management

In the "old days," we wanted to believe that getting someone into treatment was the most important thing ~ that with treatment, everything would be okay ~ that with treatment, recovery was a sure thing ~ that with treatment, our troubles would be over.

In the last 10 years, research has revealed that it may take more than one experience in treatment to achieve stable and enduring recovery. That is why researchers recommend a "continuous healing relationship with a professional who customizes care according to the patient's needs and values."

Recovery management services include:
  • Collaboration with treatment counselor in the development of an aftercare plan before treatment ends
  • Periodic assessment of relapse risk
  • Face-to-face recovery support session within 3 days of discharge from treatment
  • Regularly scheduled recovery support sessions
  • Information and linkages with community resources as needed

Additional recovery management services include:

  • Accompanying those new to recovery to local self-help groups during the first week after treatment
  • Periodic drug testing as an incentive to maintain abstinence and/or to call attention to a slip
  • "Learning Sobriety Together" counseling for couples

Each one of us is unique. The complexity of the individual fingerprint is the perfect reminder of our individuality. Even the response to alcohol, medications or drugs can be different from person to person and can change over time. Like a glass of wine, a simple joy for one is like poison for another.

Treatment is just the first step in the process of recovery, and continuing care is the key. A professional counselor from Full Life Counseling will join the newly recovering person in the center of the recovery process to offer customized support, encouragement, monitoring and referral.
